Q: Do I have to be a certain age to purchase a wine subscription (link to subscription box) from A Portuguese Love Affair?

A: Yes indeed. We take this very seriously and all customers must be over the age of 18.


Q: How much is a wine subscription (link to subscription box) with A Portuguese Love Affair?

A: Monthly Subscriptions start from £29.95 each month for 2 Portuguese great wines. You can also choose to receive 3 wines (£42), 6 (£79.95) or 12 (£139.95) bottles delivered a month. Includes delivery!


Q: What can I expect to find in my wine subscription (link to subscription box) box each month?

A: When buying for yourself or gifting someone you are asked to select your wine preference (being red wine only, white wine only or a combination of red and white). Each month these wines will be delivered to your door in a wine box containing a wine map showing you where we have sourced the wines from and some tasting notes. We will also put in your box a surprise item from our pantry to pair with the wines, it can be a tin of fish or some slices of Iberian pig or a jam we just finished at our kitchen.  Active subscribers get 10% off wine repurchases too, it’s a great way to introduced you amazing Portuguese wines and be able to repurchase them at a great price.


Q: Can I gift someone a wine subscription (link to subscription box)?

A: Yes you can. If you click here (link to subscription box) you will go to our wine home where you will find the wine subscription product. When you check out and pay for the product you will be asked for their address as this is where we will deliver the monthly wine box. If you don’t have it, just leave it blank and in the order notes ask for a gift certificate instead and we’ll emailed to you. This will have instructions for the recipient to contact us to set their own deliveries.


Q: Can I pay cash for anything?

A: You can if you do it at the shop on Hackney Road otherwise you have to use paypal.


Q: Can I set up direct debit for my monthly wine subscription (link to subscription box)?

A: By purchasing the subscription your debit or credit card will be billed for the nominated product amount each month (£29.95 for two wines, £42 for three, £79.95 for six and £139.95 for twelve). It renews automatically and you will receive an email every month notifying you for the bill.


Q: Is delivery included in the price of a wine subscription (link to subscription box)?

A: Sure is. No hidden fees nor extra charges.


Q: How and when will I be charged for my wine subscription?

A: When you first join the subscription you will be charged on the day your order is confirmed. Every monthly subscription box after that will be processed on the same date in each subsequent month thereafter.


Q: When I subscribe how long does a wine subscription go for?

A: Until you no longer want to receive the wines per month. You just need to let us know.


Q: Can I choose what wines go in my subscription box?

A: You have a few different options to choose from. You are able to select if you want all white wines, all red wines or a combination of both. White wines may include ‘Vinho verde’. If you are ordering 3 wines you can choose how you want them split, being 2 whites & 1 red or 2 reds and 1 white. The idea is to introduce you to Portuguese wines!

You then get 10% off wine re-purchases as an active subscriber.


Q: When will my wine subscription arrive?

A: If you have subscribed before the 20th of the month, wines will be delivered on the first or last Friday of the month, depending on what you selected at the time of  purchasing your subscription. If you order between the 20th and last day of the month, your wines will be delivered on the following month.


Q: Can I re-order the wines that I love online!?

A: Sure you can. As an active subscriber you get 10% off all full priced wines. You will get a discount code with your subscription every month.


Q: Can I cancel my wine subscription?

A: Of course you can. There are no contracts, subscriptions are billed on a month to month basis.


Q: How will I know my order is being processed?

A: You will receive an email from A Portuguese Love Affair shortly after your purchase confirming your order. If something doesn’t look right let us know straight away at


Q: If I never receive my order confirmation what do I do?

A: Send us an email to and we will get back to you asap.


Q: Where does A Portuguese Love Affair deliver to?

A: Right now we only deliver to the mainland UK.


Q: Can I track the delivery of my order?

A: Yes, once your order is dispatched from our warehouse you will receive an email notification and link to track your order via email and sms.


Q: Can I buy a wine subscription (link to subscription box) as a gift?

A: Yes, they are normally the perfect gift.


Q: If I don’t like the look of a wine, can I get a refund?

A: Not really… never judge a book by the cover. Exception goes for a bottles that arrive faulty.


Q: What if the wine is corked? Can I get a replacement?

A: Of course you will. We don’t think this will happen but if it does all you need to do is send us an email -  - stating why you believe the wine is faulty and return the bottle with the original cork or screw cap to:

Q: My wine arrived broken or damaged. How can I return it?

A: Take a photo of the product inside the damaged box 9 preferably  without opening the box) and send it to We will be in touch asap.


Q: How long will it take to process a refund?

A: A Portuguese Love Affair will ensure the refund is processed within 30-days max, of course we’ll try to be as quick as possible.


Q: Can I change my nominated delivery address?

A: Definitely. Just update your details before the 20th of the month for it to take effect in the current delivery month.
